9/11

I remember exactly where I was on 9-11-01. I was pregnant with our son driving home from my night shift at St. Elizabeth. I was listening to Bob and Tom and they kept talking about the attacks on New York City. I thought it was a joke at first. If you listen to Bob and Tom you know they are rarely serious. Their discussions include sex, scandal, and bodily functions. I called my husband and asked him if he heard about it. He had not. I headed home and flipped on the news. There it was. Horror, chaos, and panic. It was like I was watching a movie. Todd and I watched the coverage for hours. I should have been sleeping since I worked another 12 hour shift that night, but I couldn't. I was engrossed. I dozed for a little bit and returned to work. That night was slow on our floor. I was assigned to a patient that night who required constant nursing care. I sat for almost the 12 hours at her bedside. The TV was on and we watched all the coverage of the attacks. I couldn't help but question what kind of world were we bringing our child into? Would we overcome these horrific tragedies? I knew we would. We were Americans. We would rise together and make tomorrow better. I am thankful for all the men and women who serve our country everyday. Thank you for making it possible for my freedom. Freedom we take for granted. Many of us expect it and forget it could be taken away at a moment's notice. So again, thank you. Also, for our men and women who are fighting overseas, thank you! You are fighting the good fight, and you have not been forgotten! May freedom reign and we will never forget. May God bless the USA!
