The Karate Kid and the potty princess!

>> Wednesday, April 8, 2009

Well tonight was Brent's belt test for Karate. He has a yellow belt and was tested for the orange stripe that goes on the belt. He demonstrated his Katas with perfection. Is that really my boy who can not sit still at the table for more than 5 seconds? Wait? Maybe? It is! WOW! I am so proud!! He did great. He is the youngest boy, but full of spunk! Hard to believe he will be 7 in June. Time goes by way to fast. Somedays I wish there was a pause button so you could soak up whatever moment you were in and hold close for just a little bit longer. I would have paused my little man earning his stripe and star. I am so proud of you Brent.

We continue to attempt to potty train our soon to be 3 year old. It is hit and miss (sometimes on the floor)! The other day we shared a moment. Alexis is always on the move. Never stops. However, when it comes to using the potty she only knows one speed. SLOW! So, we had been sitting in the bathroom for about 30 minutes and I was getting frustrated. I just kept thinking of what I needed to be doing and was growing tired of sitting on the cold, hard tile. Alexis loves for me to tell her stories about castles and princesses. So as she is sitting naked on the potty eye to eye with me, she tells me to be quiet. Well, telling mommy to be quiet perked my ears, but what came next I was not ready for. She began to tell her story "Once upon a time there was a princess named Lori. She lived in a big castle.". She then went on and on for a few minutes about her dresses and shoes and every princess detail there is. I sat in amazement. She reminded me to slow down. So what if there are morning dishes in the sink or socks to fold. We will only have this exact moment once. I would have paused her story and played it over and over again because she is growing up way too fast!

I am the worst aunt ever! I totally forgot about the belt test. Please let me know when the next one is so that I can put it on my calendar. I will be there!!!!!

You are so right about seizing the moment. That theme has been on my hear lately. I need to get my priorities in order.
