Why

As I sit here in the dark of the hospital room listening to the humming of IV pumps and watching my daughter try and sleep I wonder why?

Why is she so sick?

Why is she is not getting better?

Why can we not get a straight answer?

Why are her liver enzymes elevated?

Why is she covered in hives?

Why was there no blood work ordered for in the morning?

Why is there no where to sit out front of the hospital and catch your breath?

Why her and not me?

Why?

Our night last night was awful. Lexi had multiple bouts of liquid stool. She was miserable. She got very little sleep. I spent my time changing her, washing loads of soiled laundry, and watching her sleep. This morning she awoke with no relief in her diarrhea. In about 30 minutes she had 5 pull ups full. I called the doctor and spoke with the phone nurse. She told us the earliest she could have Alexis seen was 2:40. This was at 9:30. I called back frustrated and annoyed. Did not hear me when I told her we had 15 pull ups full in the last 11 hours? I asked if another doctor could see her sooner. We saw Dr. Lipp at 11:00. He reviewed her symptoms and examined her. We spoke for a lengthy amount of time. We discussed what was in her best interest and it only seemed fitting to put her back in the hospital. We have been admitted once again to Clarian Hospital. She had an IV started. It took 3 attempts once again. Finally they got it. It doesn't help when she is severely dehydrated and is putting up one heck of a fight. They drew blood work and started a bolus of IV fluid. Then a continuous drip of IV fluids was started. Her blood work came back of except her liver enzymes are going up. We are not sure exactly why. A great friend and nurse practitioner explained it may be due to the irritation and inflammation of her stomach and bowls. We have sent some samples of her stool for further testing. They did come back negative for bacteria. Awaiting further results. We are trying to collect a urine sample. Alexis slept a lot this afternoon. She has eaten a few graham crackers. She still will not drink. This evening she began developing hives. They are covering her entire body. They gave her Benadryl. We are waiting for it to kick in. She is miserable. Not only is her stomach a mess, now she itches EVERYWHERE! We are supposed to see a doctor in the morning. Hopefully we will get some answers. We are all very frustrated! This will have gone on for a week tomorrow. Hopefully a new day will bring new insight. If not someone is going to get torn to shreds. They are dealing with a mother who has not really slept for almost a week. I have watched and listened as my daughter begged for my help while they stuck her time and time again with needles. I have watched her cry. I watched her scream. I have watched her body go limp. I want to watch her try on every princess dress she owns. I want to watch her laugh and smile. I want to watch her play and pester her big brother. I want her better.
